Our Shenendehowa Lady Plainsmen played a great, hard-fought game against Saratoga tonight, only to lose a heart-breaker, 14-10 against the Saratoga Blue Devils in the 2018 Section 2 Sectional Semi-Finals. Saratoga came into the game sporting a 14-2 record overall, 9-1 in Suburban Council play and ranked #12 in New York State according to LaxPower. Shen came into the game with a 11-5 record overall, 8-3 in Suburban Council play and ranked #29 in New York State.
The Shen faithful showed up in force on both sides of the bleachers to root on the Plainsmen during an almost perfect first half. With many of our youth lax players in attendance and many Shen Alumni in the crowd, our girls did not disappoint.
With JV pull-up – Sara Stalica on the circle with Celia Ralph, Shen dominated the first half circle early on to take a 4-3 lead with 7 minutes left in the first half. Tied at 4-4, speedster Stalica picked up a loose draw from Kara Gray and fed Junior, Sarah Osborne to put Shen up 5-4. The first period ended with the score knotted up at 7-7.
The second half was not kind to Shenendehowa. Led by Saratoga phenom, Junior Lindsay Frank, the talented, Division I-laden Saratoga squad took control early in the half taking a 10-7 lead on some fast-break opportunities off the draw. Our girls battled till the end, only to see the season end losing in a great high school game 14-10.
A tough loss, but our Varsity, led by Seniors, Jenna Graf, Kara Gray, Julia Shanahan, Bridget Shanahan, and Erin Robbins gave Saratoga all they could tonight. Thank you to the Shen community, Shen Athletic Department, the Booster Club, and most importantly, the Shen Lax coaches and players for doing what you do.
Saratoga will take on Bethlehem, who defeated Guilderland Monday for the 2018 Section 2 Championship at Mohonosen May 23 @ 4:30.
